Job Opportunities: HZDR

PhD Position: Multiphysics simulation of aerosol dispersion in rooms

Place:   Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf

Contact: Dr. Gregory Lecrivain, g.lecrivainnoSp@m@hzdr.de

Duration: 3.5 years

Starting date: as soon as possible

We are looking for a PhD candidate with an excellent degree in an engineering or natural science subject and very good knowledge in numerical and experimental fluid dynamics. Within the PhD project you shall:

  • develop numerical simulation tools and models for aerosol dispersion scenarios in spaces with moving agents;
  • develop multiphysics modelling approaches for analyses of aerosol filtering, as well as virus inactivation by UV radiation and heat;
  • perform experimental validation in cooperation with project partners.

Postdoctoral Researcher / Transfer Manager

Place:   Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf

Contact: Prof. Dr. Uwe Hampel, u.hampelnoSp@m@hzdr.de

Duration: 3 years

Starting date: Earliest Oct. 2021

We are looking for an applicant with a background, preferably with a doctorate, in an engineering, engineering economics or natural science subject and with in-depth knowledge in at least one of the following subject areas: Physics of aerosols, aerosol measurement technology, air conditioning and ventilation technology, measurement and sensor technology, fluid mechanics.

Your tasks in the project are:

1. Technology transfer:

  • Supporting the working groups of the consortium in the transfer of ideas and concepts into practice and in the organisation of cooperation with associated industrial partners of the consortium.
  • Develop transfer and marketing strategies for technological solutions.
  • Supporting the working groups of the consortium in securing IP and acquiring new partners for joint exploitation activities.
  • Supporting the generation of ideas in the consortium within the framework of regular think tank activities.
  • Supporting the acquisition of cooperative follow-up projects in the field of science and technology transfer.

2. Own scientific work:

  • You are yourself an active scientific initiator for the development of findings and technical solution approaches in at least one of the following fields
  • Experimental techniques for the study of aerosol transport
  • Reduction of viral loads in buildings through integrated building technology solutions; economic and ecological evaluations
  • Alternative concepts for air purification and virus inactivation
  • Sensor technology and concepts for rapid detection of airborne viruses
  • Novel filter technologies with virus inactivation

To this end, you will primarily take on the role of an impulse and idea generator and actively acquire new research projects.
